Dementia Home Care

We all know someone who has been affected by dementia in one way or another. Select Home Care can help families care for their loved ones with dementia home care. Many people don’t understand exactly what dementia is. This page has been designed to help families understand how home care services can help those suffering from dementia. Dementia is a term that describes a wide range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. Memory loss is an example. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia. Dementia itself is not a specific disease.

Dementia Home Care Services

With a better understanding of dementia, one can see how engaging dementia home care can help. Dementia in home care can be defined as a simple phrase that encompasses a wide range of health and social services. These services are delivered at home to recovering, disabled, chronically or terminally ill persons in need of medical, nursing, social, or therapeutic treatment and/or assistance with the essential activities of daily living.

Select Home Care staff can help clients and their family when affected by dementia. Our dementia caregivers will help with personal care such as hygiene, toileting, dressing, oral care, hair care, etc., when these types of activities become difficult. Many times it will be gentle verbal cues reminding the client what to do next or kindly guiding them to finish a specific activity. In addition to helping with personal care our staff will often help clients suffering from dementia by assisting with the other activities of daily living, including light housekeeping, transportation, meal planning and preparation, errands and overall activities of daily living.
