Now, here are some stress management tips to help you better cope with being a caregiver.

Meet Your Own Needs Too

It’s easy to get so caught up in taking care of your loved one that you start to neglect your own needs, which can easily lead to burnout or even health problems of your own. Make sure you’re eating enough, getting enough sleep, and getting some exercise, even if it’s just taking a short walk sometime during the day.

Keep Your Schedule Organized

Managing your own schedule can be difficult enough without adding someone else’s on top of it. Make sure your calendar is well organized with you and your loved one’s medical appointments, social activities, and other events so you always know what’s happening when.

Learn When to Say No

You can’t do everything on your own! If you’re starting to feel like you’re taking on too much, don’t agree to take on anything else. You won’t be doing your loved one any good if you’re stretched too thin.

Reach Out for Help

You aren’t the only one in Westlake who’s taking care of an elderly loved one. All of the support groups listed above are ready to help you cope.

In addition, we at Select Home Care know as well as anyone how stressful being a caregiver can be. Let us help! Please call (800) 993-1657 (toll free) or (805) 777-3855 (office) to learn more about our part-time and full-time in home care programs.
