Caring for an elderly loved one can feel like an isolating experience. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many ways for caregivers and seniors to find support and friendship in Las Vegas, including these five organizations.

Alzheimer’s Association – Desert Southwest Chapter

The Alzheimer’s Association is a nationwide organization that has been involved in every major research discovery since the 1980s and holds a variety of events and fundraisers every year. The Desert Southwest Chapter provides support to Alzheimer’s patients and their families in Arizona and Southwest Nevada, including educational programs, support groups, and opportunities to participate in research. For more information, you can call their Las Vegas office at (702) 248-2770 or visit them online.

Alzheimer’s Support Groups

The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group at their Las Vegas office; but if you’re looking for a group that’s closer to where you live, you can find a list of other Southern Nevada support groups on their website.

Clark County Senior Citizens Law Project

The Senior Citizens Law Project provides free legal counsel to those 60 and older on matters such as wills, social security entitlement, health care planning, power of attorney, and investigation of elder abuse. To get more information about the types of cases they work with or to schedule a meeting, they can be reached at (702) 229-6596.

Divorced and Widowed Adjustment, Inc

This nonprofit has been holding weekly support group meetings for over 35 years to help men and women cope with the loss of a relationship through divorce, suicide, death, or even the loss of a pet. Their 24-hour helpline can be reached at (702) 735-5544 for more information on their different support groups.

Senior Centers

There are dozens of senior centers throughout Las Vegas that offer educational programs, information sessions, medical screenings, and athletic activities for seniors. For a complete listing of the city’s senior centers and an overview of the activities they offer, visit the Alzheimer’s Association online.

In addition to these resources, many seniors obtain great benefits from at home care in Las Vegas, for the companionship as much as for help with daily activities. To get in home care from Las Vegas’s premier care provider, call us today at (702) 240-2273 or toll free at (866) 446-9263
